Mather’s alpha function plays a central role in the theory of action-minimizing sets such as Mather set, Aubry set and Ma\~{n}\’e set. In this talk, we investigate relationships between Mather’s alpha function and these sets. Moreover, we give a characterization of $C^0$ integrability and propose a related question about the existence of smooth weak KAM solutions to the Hamilton-Jacobi equation.
