Stability Analysis for a Certain Class of Equilibria of a Generalized Free Rigid Body

In this talk, discussed is the stability of a certain class of equilibria in the generalized free rigid body dynamics on the Lie algebra so(n). It is well-known that the Euler equation for a generalized free rigid body can be regarded as a dynamical system on the (co)adjoint orbit, where the stability analysis is performed. A linear stability condition is obtained for the equilibria in the intersection of the (co)adjoint orbit with the coordinate type Cartan subalgebras in so(n).
