Generalized Free Rigid Body Dynamics and its Quantization

In this colloquium talk we give a generalization of the three-dimensional free rigid body dynamics and consider its quantization. The inertia tensors, which are positive-definite symmetric matrices in the ordinary case, are generalized to arbitrary symmetric ones in our generalization. The classical dynamics can be analysed from the viewpoint of certain Lie-Poisson structures on the Euclidean space of dimension three. We pose a problem of the quantized systems and solve it exactly in some special cases.
