POut of equilibrium statistical mechanics for a simple model of Free Electron Laser

We analyze quasi stationary states of the Colson-Bonifacio model of a Free Electron Laser by taking advantage of the relationship between the Hamitonian dynamics of the model and the associated Vlasov equation. We show in particular that a statistical analysis of the Vlasov equation, first developed in the contexts of astrophysics and 2D turbulence, gives a reasonable description of the quasi stationary states. This talk will present results obtained in collaboration with F. Bouchet, T. Dauxois, G. De Ninno, D. Fanelli and Y. Yamaguchi.
