The unitary Euler equation

The Euler equation for a free rigid body is defined
on the cotangent bundle of $SO(3)$.
This equation is generalized to that on the cotangent
bundle of $U(n)$, which may be viewed as describing
geodesic flows with respect to a left- or a right-invariant
metric on $U(n)$.
It will be shown that when reduced on a coadjoint
orbit, the geodesic flow system is completely integrable.
In addition, the stability/unstability of stationary
solutions will be discussed.
